Friday, April 25th, 2008

Blogging web weblogs as they are known fall into these main blog platforms:

Blogger.com is under Google and you don’t have to buy a domain name separately because your blog is hosted free by the Blogger.com. Similary TypePad is also hosted for you but at a small monthly fee.

Wordpress has two services. You can have a free blog powered by Wordpress.com or you can host your blog on a server of your choice.
In the self hosted wordpress blog you need a domain name and a server to host your blog. This self hosted wordpress blog has many options and plugins which make the blogs versatile and more search engine friendly.
Movable Type is also self installed with similar options like Wordpress.

I have been using Bloggers.com for my blogs but have discovered Wordpress and right now I am trying to learn how to install and optimize a Wordpress blog.

If you are also new at how to use Wordpress check out the easy web tutorials website especially their Free Blogging Video Tutorials which was easy to follow and very helpful.

Another useful blog was Caroline Middlebrook’s with her free download of “Build Niche Sites with WordPress”.

For a technically challenged individuals like myself, Wordpress installation can be frustrating but with the step by step tutorials I was able to finally complete the blog and reap the benefits of a much superior and search engine friendly blog.

What does blog stand for?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

The language within the Internet is changing so fast that most people can’t just keep up with it. Many of us don’t know what a blog is or for that matter a Lens.

What does the word blog stand for? Blog is one of those new words which have grown from the use of the world wide web or the Internet.

There isn’t any one definition for it and neither is it an acronym for some long words.

Many have given it these meanings as quoted in the www.abbreviations.com, the Web Log, Better Listings On Google and even funny definition like Boring Lump Of Garbage.

But a Blog is just a collection of thoughts, ideas, and information.

Some view it as an online journal or diary, while others use it as a platform to air or exchange their views with others. It can be a showcase to sell your products or a source of excellent information on many topics.

In other words a blog can be anything you want it to be. It is very versatile in that you can post on it daily, weekly or monthly.

That said I want to talk about this blog of mine and what it stands for. The News About Blogging is my online journal on interesting aspects of my personal experiences as a blogger, from my life to my hobby as an Internet marketer. I want to share these personal insights with you, so feel free to respond to the posts with your comments or questions.
